Question: my daughter peed on microfiber / micro suede couch?
i know that to remove urine i'm supposed to put baking soda on it to soak it up then vacuum. then remove remaining stain with rubbing alcohol. the problem is, it is already dried so is it okay to lightly wet the spot with water in order to do all this or is there something else i should do altogether so i don't ruin our couch?
and yeah i know this is the toddler section but i'm sure at one point most of you have had to do this right?
Answer: I have to say that the Kids N Pets stuff is pretty great stuff. I was IN LOVE with Oxi Clean and then I found that stuff. It works great on a lot of things. I still have to pull out the Oxi Clean for really stubborn stains, think pasta sauce thow-up on white carpets (UGH!), but otherwise that stuff is really good.
In other tips, my son did the exact same thing a few weeks ago, had a major potty training accident on the microfiber couch. I think he peed a gallon right onto the cushion. So, no spot treatment was going to work. I have a steam cleaner so I vaccumed out as much as I could, then steam cleaned it with a water/Oxi Clean/steam cleaner solution. It still stunk, so I totally soaked the entire cushion with the mixture, let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, vacummed as much as I could back out and let it dry. Then I febreezed the heck out of it. It worked, no stain and the smell is gone.
Another thing you can try, especially if you're worried about warranties or ruining your couch, is to get ahold of microfiber cleaner. We got a kit with our couch that has a microfiber solution that has worked on every spot treatment stain we've ever had on the couch. Every furniture dealer should have it as it comes with part of the guardian protection plan if you buy it. Anyway, it works really well and is made specifically for microfiber/suede fabric. But, as another said, that type of material really if hardy, so another cleaner should be ok. I've used rug/upholstry cleaners and oxi clean on mine and never had a problem.

Microfiber is one of the best things ever happened in the world of home furnishings. The microfiber fabrics, the finest fiber known to man, mild, versatile, lightweight and easy maintenance. They are sometimes made to look like suede or leather and furniture manufacture highly attractive. As They also tend to repel dust and are hypoallergenic out to some extent, microfiber is an extremely popular material for stuffing sofas, car seats and chairs. Cleaning microfiber furniture requires special methods because the fabric stain resistant as exposes them to get watermark. Using methods and cleaning badly can result in a breakdown of the microfibers and make your upholstery lose the both its resilience and appearance. As for upholstered furniture, if you follow a few simple cleaning tips you will maintain the looks of your microfiber furniture.
Hair of dog and cat is the biggest problem with microfiber seats. It easily brush. The best way to remove cat and dog hair microfiber furniture is to use a Lint Roller or a special cloth for removing hair. Microfiber is not suitable for animals long hairs. Hair and body oils from people and pets as glue stick to microfiber - requiring more agitation and cleaning than most furniture padded. Loose dirt should be cleaned and swept before it becomes more difficult to remove. Vacuum weekly or light brushing helps to remove debris from the lint, Pet Hair, soil and prevent the embedding of dirt or dirt between the fibers which can increase abrasion and wear.
If you spill something on your furniture, take a damp sponge absorbing white and dab the stain. Keep blotting until the spill is as dry as possible. Remember not to rub a spill of fear of the spread. Use a mild detergent to wash stains or spots. Use as little liquid as possible and blot the stain as you go. Even if your furniture is tolerant of water, it is preferable to use a hair dryer for quick drying of any wet spots to avoid the possibility of traces of water. Always keep the dryer on the coolest setting.
You can prevent excessive wear your microfiber furniture by exchanging cushions possible. People are accustomed to sit at the same spot and by exchanging or reversing cushions you prevent excessive wear any a cushion. Keep your furniture out of direct sunlight will prevent fading or other damage to the fabric. As rearranging furniture in a room can be effective in preventing excessive wear and fading.
Even if polyester microfiber has excellent resistance to soiling and staining it must still be cleaned thoroughly every year. Pollution from outside, cooking vapors and greasy fingers will coat the fabric and if not removed regularly, you will find the microfiber becomes soiled very easily. Do not use a machine cleaning carpets with a furniture attachment on your microfiber furniture. This will cause wrinkles in the fiber and may even shrink. A method low moisture deep cleaning is preferable because it reduces the possibility of causing any damage to your microfiber furniture. Never use solvent for nail polish, or anything containing acetone, on your microfiber furniture. Do not use any product containing bleach or bleach alternative on your microfiber furniture as it may cause discoloration. Because microfiber is synthetic, it must be cleaned differently. Solvents that will hurt cotton will do nothing to microfiber. However, things that do nothing to microfiber fabric regular damage. In addition, certain chemicals will literally Dissolve the chemicals that make up microfiber, so do not put anything on your furniture.
