Bag ban expected to be approved
The Brownsville City Commission today is expected to give the final nod to a citywide ban on plastic shopping bags during its first meeting of the New Year.

It is very easy to make your own reusable bag or tote. All you need is a strong fabric (such as heavy calico) and some cotton cloth or braid for handles.
Suitable Fabrics & Notions
As indicated above, you should choose a durable fabric such as cotton, calico or heavy. To make a bag you'll need half a yard of fabric (assuming that the width of the fabric is 43 "or larger). Metric for sewers, you will need ½ yard of fabric if the fabric is at least 106cm wide.
He also May be worth investing in yarn quality, as you may be carrying some heavy items in your bag and you can not afford to have your bag break due to good quality yarn at low prices!
For handles, I recommend cotton strap or braid about 1 inch wide (2.5 cm). You'll need 48 "strap (or 122 cm).
To Make Your Pattern

Lengthen your fabric face down, then draw your rectangles as follows:
Bag side (you'll need 2 of these) 13 ½ inches wide by 14 ½ inches tall (which pays a stipend "½ seam). Metric In, 2 rectangles of 34cm by 36cm (with the allocation of 1 cm in a sewing).
Then you'll need long rectangle measuring 42 ½ "by 5 ½ "(or 106cm by 12cm).

Take your belt and cut 2 handles 24 "long (or 61cm).
To Make Up
Basically, the long piece of fabric must be sewn on three sides of each rectangle (as shown in this diagram www.sewing4dummies.com/images/bag-sew.gif). Place a rectangle on the side the long room (place cons point) and start sewing. Stitch slowly turning the corners of the rectangle. I strongly recommend that you sew each seam twice for increased resistance, especially in the corners.
Now, attach your handles to the bag and sew on the seam of a rectangle, then sew a cross in the middle (see diagram target = "_blank"> www.sewing4dummies.com/images/bag-handles.gif). Again, it would be wise to double-stitched seams.
This is not bad if you attach the handles to the inside or outside, to you. And that's all. Very simple.
