Question: Do portable deep cleaners (spot removers) work well?

I was thinking of calling an upholstry/Carpet Cleaning company to clean my couch when someone on Yahoo! Answers recommended that I get a Bissell SpotBot. I looked it up and found several similar products as well. My question is do these things really work well and will they effect the fabric on my sofa? (I'm not sure of the exact fabric but it is cloth). Has anyone used any similar product that is a portable Deep Cleaner for fabrics, and how well do they work?
If so, any recommendations as to which ones work the best?

Answer: I bought a home carpet/upholstery cleaner. I recommend you rent them from the store or hire someone.

First you have to store them when they are not being used. Not to many people have a lot of extra space.

Next they are home units, they don't work as well as the commercial units.

If a rented one brakes.....take it back. No extra cost.

If you are concerned about damaging your fabric then hire someone. They have different chemicals and should know what will do the best job.

Question: Whats the best way to shampoo my area rug??

So I want to shampoo my area rug in my living room, It is not filthy or really dirty at all. I just like to keep things clean and nice looking. It is on top of carpet. Will it be okay to shampoo it where it is? Or place plastic underneath? Any recommendations or tips would be a great help!!! Thanks bunches.
It is a fairly large rug, 6x8? White carpet underneath it and the rug itself is shapes of black, grey and white.

Answer: It is spring after all...is the rug really large? Is it possible to put it outside to clean it??? Allowing the breeze and sunshine to dry it.

I always use steam to clean my carpets, no soap. I guess I feel like if some how I don't get all of the shampoo out, the soapy residue will collect more dirt when folks walk on it....

Sisal is harvested and stripped of their durable fibers, making it an extremely flexible system, a solid carpet. But while your carpet may be rich, it can still be affected by outside forces. When it comes to cleaning, clean your carpets with care to avoid damage surface and uneven coloration. Do not clean your carpets with an excessive amount of liquid; sisal rugs tend to Shrink when it happens. Keep your carpets dry or high moisture areas. Moisture can distort your carpet, warping it in the shadow of himself. Instead, keep your rug in its current form by lying on the floor in a dry place, preferably an area where spills are less likely to occur. If you in spill on your carpet, clean it as quickly as possible by blotting with a dry cloth without rubbing the liquid into the fiber. Repeat on the underside of the carpet if you need.

Cleaning Materials dry as mud by scraping them with a sharp edge, like a wooden knife. Powders for special cleaning sisal carpets are useful as well. Remember to empty your carpet regularly to pick up dirt and accrued that right away. Vacuuming frequently also prolongs the duration of life of the carpet because the dirt embedded in the carpet can destroy the carpet fibers. Even if all the life of a sisal rug can not save a poor maintenance. If you're really concerned that your carpet is looking less than perfect, many manufacturers suggest dry cleaning. Check with the leading manufacturer and be sure not to shampoo or wet steam clean your carpets! Again, all that excess moisture will pucker your carpet into something unrecognizable. Sisal rugs are tough, sturdy and versatile, but only if you let be. Spot clean as necessary and keep your sisal rug dry, and you'll enjoy for years to come.
