Question: i made an envelope to my dad about sacrifices i'll make in order to get a pet rat.but do i give it, or bin it?

ok so i really want a pet rat. i really want to buy a pet rat with my money. the rat is about £7 and the cage is £80, and i'd use my allowance to buy the food and bedding every month. only problem is, my dad doesn't want anymore animals, because he thinks he'll end up looking after it. so i've made him a letter, saying i'll feed the other animals(i have 7 chickens, 2dogs, a budgie, a rabbit and 2guinea-pigs.) but none are just mine. i know i sound like a spoilt brat, and i apprecciate all my parents do for me, but i'd really like to spend my money on this. in the envelope i've put all the details of rats, (i've previously owned rats, and they had never bitten me.) i've printed out pages from petsathome.com of the perfect cage, and all the food and hammocks and stuff like that. i've put it all in an envelope, and its addressed "dad", but now i'm just stuck on wether to give it to him. he's in quite a good mood today, but i'm still not sure. please help!

Answer: I would let your dad know that not only do you plan to help with the other animals, but you promise to keep it up for a month before he makes his decision on whether or not you should get the rat. That way not only are you promising to do something, but you are willing to show him you're good for it.

Also, I know this might *hurt* your case a bit, but rats really are happier in pairs. Do some research on the cost of one versus the cost of owning two. You'll find that owning two isn't *much* more expensive. The only real concern with having more than one rat is that you have to clean the cage more frequently.
