Question: How to attach the mains power lead to a Hoover Conquest canister vacuum cleaner?

I have a Hoover Conquest canister vacuum cleaner (Silver colour) which had intermittent power problems (solved by yanking the power cable) but it has now stopped working completely.

It's likely that the mains power cable has become detached internally but I can't see how to access the anchor point for the cable or spool. There are two screws recessed near the hinge of the dust bag lid which I have loosened but the cover over the power supply and fan is still firmly attached and I can't see any other screws.

The cleaner is out of warranty and I intend to use it in the garage so I'm not too concerned about scratches or minor damage.

Answer: i know this machine! its shite. very likely its the mains cable spool assembly which has cheap contacts internally. The only way to get to em is to effectively gut the thing, which is accomplished by taking off the bag compartment cover and removing all the screws, then flip the beast over and remove 2 screws (could be 3---dont really remember) and then the whole cowboy rig falls into several pieces. Probably better to remove the spool completely and use a couple of screw down wire connectors to reattach the mains. if screws arent present, then its the snap together kind. the rules of repair state...

If it sticks or jams, then force it! if it breaks, then it needed to be replaced anyway....

but, honestly mate. this machine sucks---that is to say it does not produce much of a vacuum. might be better to hit the resale shops and find a good dyson can vac.

Question: Does anyone own a really good Carpet Cleaning machine?

I am considering a purchase of a Carpet Cleaning machine. Does anyone own one they would recommend? Also on carpeted stairs, could I use the spray, 'Resolve,' to clean them several times a year and get good results with that product? Any down side to Resolve? I would like to clean my carpets two-three times a year, and at $175.00 each time, I can't afford but once a year. I feel if I could purchase one, it would pay for itself after a few cleanings. I only need to clean 600 sq feet minus the 12 carpeted stairs. It would mostly be traffic areas too. I don't want to buy a separate machine for the stairs if I can use the Resolve with good results. The last professional Carpet Cleaning I had ScotchGuard put on. Would I be able to purchase a scotchgurad product to use like the professionals use, once I cleaned my own carpets? I would appreciate any advice. My carpets are 3 yrs old, if that makes a difference in your answers.

Answer: We bought a Rug Doctor after renting them many times with great results. We paid $700 for the Rug Doctor at Kohl's when it was on sale. It was definitely worth it for us to purchase it.
I have had the cleaners you can buy from department stores, we had a Hoover and a Bissel and neither worked as well as the Rug Doctor. The Rug Doctor also came with attachments for cleaning steps and upholstery so it was a worthy purchase. I have even cleaned my van carpets with it and they looked brand new after I was finished.

Anyway, yes you can buy scotch guard for your carpets to use after you shampoo. We bought some at Lowe's and spray our carpets afterwards. It works well. We bought the 3M brand.

I don't have experience with Resolve so all I can say is try it out and see if it works for you.
I highly recommend the Rug Doctor though. The ones you rent in your local hardware or grocery store are red but the ones they sell for purchase are blue. They are exactly the same otherwise.

Answer: ok...bottom of vaccum bag sits on round flat bar....rotate that bottom piece and it should lift off once the pin are lined up.
