Question: If i use rubbing alcohol to disinfect in a spray bottle do i add water or use straight?

If i need to mix it with water what should the ratio be?

Answer: Perhaps 50/50 ought to work. I would add water primarily because the odor in rubbing alcohol is VERY strong.

Because of the unique properties contained in the essential oils, you can easily use essential oils as disinfectants. Use of essential oils as disinfectants provides an alternative quite natural to aggressive chemicals.

All essential oils have disinfectant properties, although some have higher degrees. Using the right essential oils as disinfectants not only the advantage of cleaning the area you are targeting the room feel as large and not as a chemical bath.

When using essential oils as disinfectants, most citrus oils are high in disinfectant properties, like lavender, tea tree and bergamot. To use a portion or blend of these essential oils as disinfectants, simply add warm water to clean the floor, or place a damp cloth to clean surfaces.

For create a mixture of cleaning that uses essential oils as disinfectants, try the following recipes:

Deodorizing and Disinfectant Spray
6 drops grapefruit oil
6 drops of rosemary oil
4 drops of lemon oil
2 oz (60 ml) of distilled water or purified

Combine ingredients in a glass bottle and spray spritzer as necessary, shaking before use. This combination can also be used in a burner or diffuser (without water in a diffuser).

Air Freshener
6 drops of orange oil
4 drops oil of cinnamon leaf
4 oz (120 ml) of distilled or purified

Combine ingredients in a spritzer glass bottle and spray as required by shaking before use.

When using essential oils as disinfectants, it is important that only therapeutic grade oils used. Synthetic oils, but also less expensive, have no disinfectant properties, and may in fact be harmful. Surely they can not be used as essential oils as disinfectants.

You can easily find more information on the use of essential oils as disinfectants in a good aromatherapy book. A good book will list the oils that have the highest properties disinfectant, and will generally include some recipes you can try.

The Internet is also a good source for finding information on essential oils as disinfectants. As more and more people choose natural alternatives, more information becomes available on the Internet. You can even find some sites offering selected courses and information resources on aromatherapy free.
