Question: do you think that the new reusable green bags pose a serious risk to checkout operators?
I work in a supermarket and I handle these reusable bags all day and i find that a massive percentage of them are in DISGUSTING condition. I am allergic to Pet Hair and I would bet that close to 50% of the bags come thru covered in Pet Hair, some come thru covered in blood, i even had cockraoches crawl out of one, not to mention the girl that got hepatitus coz she put her hands in someones bag that had a rusty razor in it. i guess my questions are, are your reusable bags CLEAN? are they folded neatly and not all scrunched up? And do you REALLY think that they are a "good" change considering the health risks to humans?
Answer: Wow! I never thought of it that way. I would never take a yucky bag to be reused, too embarrassing. I will star your question, to see if any of my contacts have the answer.

Folding Reusable Shopping

Question: Where can I find sturdy & inexpensive reusable shopping bags?
I've picked up a bunch at the supermarket and various other places for 99 cents but the plastic on the bottom breaks pretty quickly and the bag gets mushy. I wouldn't mind spending a little extra to get a bag that stands up well (helps with the bagging/presorting) and that has a sturdy bottom that will last but yet will fold up pretty compactly for storage. Is there anything like that out there? I wouldn't mind spending up to $5.00 each if they will last. Any suggestions?
Answer: at some smaller grocery stores and thrift shops they have cloth bags for cheap prices. These are very sturdy and will last much longer than plastic ones at the leading grocery stores. Still try not to overload them....any materical has its breaking point.
p.s. make sure the cloth is thick enough or it could also be weak

David Madden is the founder and president of Container Exchanger (containerexchanger.com), an online marketplace for used packaging systems recorded, such as collapsible bulk containers, metal containers, plastic pallets, and hand bags. Returnable packaging reduces waste created by each company. The EarthWorks Group estimates that 30% of landfill waste is created by plastic and paper packaging. The use of cardboard products and other one time use packaging products contribute to this waste.
Folding bulk containers, industrial totes, and Storage Bins made of metal are used repeatedly in a facility or between a supplier and a customer. They can be used literally thousands of times. These bulk boxes are much cheaper in the long term compared to buying cardboard boxes and wooden crates every time that the product is shipped. Savings can be observed in the cost per piece packaging. While investment Initial in returnable packaging may cost more, savings can be realized quickly through repeated use (the same bulk containers, metal containers and bags are used repeatedly), (work no more box assembly), material handling (less movement of stackable containers), quality (fewer rejects due to damaged packaging) and space (plastic containers metal can stack very high). Packaging costs per room for bulk containers and bags used can be as low as 5% of costs for a lasting solution comparable, depending on shipping volumes.
