Autoimmune disease of the inner ear (AIED) is an incendiary circumstance of the inner ear. The reason of AIED is mostly assumed to be linked to antibodies or cells that cause damage to exempt the inner ear. Interestingly, this treatment may appear as several autoimmune diseases different within the same family. However, genetic predisposition alone does not cause autoimmune disease to develop. Other factors must be present both in order to initiate the disease process.

Autoimmune disease of the inner ear is a rare disease occurring in less than one percent of 28 million Americans with hearing loss. Both allergies and autoimmune diseases such as traditional ankylosing spondylitis, lupus erythematosus syndrome Sjoegren, Cogan's disease, ulcerative colitis, Wegener's disease, rheumatoid arthritis and scleroderma can cause or be associated with AIED. The condition was suggested to be more common in female patients who may or may not have the autoimmune disease systemic concomitant with that of patients male. Autoimmunity occurs with loss of control of homeostasis of the immune system. Host tissues to be recognized as foreign and induce harmful vasculitis and fibrosis. The drug can be put directly into the inner ear under local anesthesia, or use tiny ear tubes put in place surgically. Not all people respond to steroid therapy the same way. Treatment results in some people hear better, or better discrimination or both.
